About Jess

Angharad-&-Paul--235_web_12x8_12x8As an original singer songwriter with a penchant for making each and every cover song her own, my aim is to connect with the guts of any tune and sing it directly to you.

From naming ceremonies set in the wooded wilds, to top drawer festivals with a national name, I’ve played my way through hundreds of sets created specifically with each individual audience in mind. Using a powerful vocal and a warm and simple guitar accompaniment, I’ve danced countless first dances, walked brides down the aisle, welcomed in a great many guests and wished so many beautiful people a most wonderful celebratory day over the years.

As a grubby blonde urchin growing up in rural Wales, my mother’s love of all things Bob Dylan and Joan Baez (to name a few) permeated the walls of our family farmhouse and the simple sound of a vocal with acoustic guitar settled itself within my soul. Since then I’ve drawn on all that inspired me as a child to make a host of musical messages sing in a range of bold and beautiful settings, and have had the pleasure of singing at the most personal of occasions over the years as well as at a wide range of well-known public events too.

Along the way I’ve also written, recorded and launched my own EP The Plaster, and appeared under my own steam at festivals including the National Audio Show, Brecon Jazz Fringe Festival, How The Light Gets In, Hay Festival Winter Festival and many more.

What people say

[ut_one_half]

“My lovely Dad walked me down the aisle to the sound of ‘The Promise’ by Tracy Chapman – performed by the amazing Jess Childs. We also all sang ‘I can’t help falling in Love’ by Elvis again performed by Jess – it was amazing and incredibly moving.”

“Jess has been a mainstay of the Sunday lunch experience at The Felin Fach Griffin for more years than we care to remember, and has in turn continually adapted the range and style of music she provides to suit all of our musical needs elsewhere during that time. Whatever the occasion – be it a Burns’ Night sing along, one of our low key weddings or a taster evening for local producers – Jess always comes up with the goods. The value she brings to the Felin Fach Griffin brand was particularly emphasised when she resumed her monthly sets following a break around the birth of her first child. So many customers remarked on how nice it was to have her back, bringing her unique sound and co-operative manner in tow, and we couldn’t agree more.”

Weddings

Your Songs, Acoustic And Live:

As Your Guests Arrive
To Walk You Down The Aisle
For The Signing Of The Register
To Close Your Ceremony
During The Drinks Reception
While You Eat
To Start The Evening
For Your First Dance

Every couple has their ‘song’ and what better way is there to mark your lifelong journey together than to have it sung to you live, acoustically – and with real feeling – on your special day? Maybe your ceremony is covered but you’re looking for something a bit more personal to occupy your guests with while your photos are taken and the nibbles are served? It could be that the recorded version of your special song doesn’t really have that ‘first dance’ feel you’re looking for, but simply nothing else will do.

From creating bespoke set lists to producing a whole new version of your chosen tune especially for you, I’ve got years of experience when it comes to producing your favourite songs in a manner fit for the occasion. I’ve walked brides down the aisle to Bruno Mars, Tracy Chapman and Lonestar. I’ve sung first dances for Eva Cassidy, Oasis and Joan Armatrading fans. I’ve also been known to bring the Lion King to life for the signing of the register on occasion too! Weddings are such a personal occasion and I believe the soundtrack to your big day should, wherever possible, be specific to you too.

Special Events

Your Songs And Mine, Acoustic And Live To Suit:

Birthdays
Christenings
Funerals
Christmas Parties
Corporate Events
Dine By Music Afternoon & Evenings

From Burns’ Night celebrations, to Valentine’s Day, to making a busy Sunday lunch period go with a swing, I have covered them all over the years. No Scottish folk song (and not even a few others sung in Welsh) has defeated me yet! I’ve also got more than an hour’s worth of Christmas crackers available to make the yuletide particularly warm and cosy when it comes to drinks and/or dinner at a pub, hotel or similar venue near you this festive season. Or maybe you’re looking to make your client ‘do’ a lot less corporate and a bit more atmospheric?

Whatever the occasion, I specialise in bringing a range of music for all ages to you in a manner appropriate for all. From John Legend to John Denver, from Blue Moon to Bon Iver, I bring a host of favourites to you in a relaxed, unobtrusive and respectful way.
